Sergio Martínez has presented on 27th Sep 2021 his PhD thesis entitled “Efficient Simulation Tools (EST) for sediment transport in geomorphological shallow flows”
The PhD thesis was supervised by Pilar García-Navarro and the evaluation commitee was composed by Rui Ferreira (Universidade de Lisboa), Javier Murillo (Universidad de Zaragoza) and Luca Cozzolino (Università degli Studi di Napoli Parthenope).
The work is focused on the design, development and verification of a multi-CPU and GPU-based computational techniques for the simulation of the two dimensional shallow-type equations for sediment transport in complex geomorphological processes. He developed comprehensive computer models used to simulate a wide range of hyperconcentrated flows ranging from non-Newtonian mud/debris flows to movement of granular materials. These equations are widely used for modeling free-surface phenomena and they usually require an important computational effort to be solved in practical cases.
We warmly congratulate our colleague Sergio for his PhD with honors and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors!!
