Researchers Mario Morales-Hernández and Pablo Vallés attended the “Water Safety Symposium: Emerging Contaminants and Innovative Approaches to Water Purification”, organized by the INMA-CSIC in Benasque between May 6 and 8. The symposium brought together researchers working on water quality, emerging contaminants, microplastics, and innovative technologies for water treatment and environmental protection. The conference provided an excellent opportunity to present recent numerical developments related to emerging contaminants and microplastic transport in aquatic systems, establish potential collaborations, and discuss new research perspectives for the coming years.
Mario Morales-Hernández presented the contribution entitled “Modelling the Transport and Fate of Emerging Contaminants in Shallow Water Flows”, where several analytical and realistic test cases were discussed. The presentation received positive feedback from the audience, particularly regarding the applicability of numerical modelling tools for environmental risk assessment and contaminant transport analysis.
In addition, Pablo Vallés presented the work “Tracking Microplastics in Rivers: Modeling Transport and Environmental Fate”, focused on the development of a computational model for microplastic transport under shallow flow conditions.
