Luis Hernández, postdoctoral researcher on our team at the University of Zaragoza, has been selected to participate in the 15th Advanced Training Course on Land Remote Sensing: The Water Cycle, organized by the European Space Agency (ESA) together with the University of Perugia (Italy), from 7 to 11 September 2026.
During this training, Luis will take the opportunity to present the EFHERA project (Enhancing after-Fire Hydrological and Environmental Recovery of Agroforestry zones), showing how our team uses Earth observation data, particularly Sentinel-2 imagery, to characterize vegetation cover before and after wildfires and to assess its impacts on erosion through physically-based modeling tools and the use of high-performance computing (HPC).
This advanced training is an opportunity to strengthen our technical capabilities in the use of the Sentinel missions and their freely available Earth observation data, reinforcing our work on hydrodynamic modeling, soil erosion, and sediment transport and deposition under post-fire conditions.
It is also a valuable occasion to showcase our work in high-level scientific settings such as those fostered by ESA, an agency at the forefront of Earth observation, and to highlight the University of Zaragoza’s active participation in high-impact projects with a strong component of applied research addressing concrete problems, opening the door to new collaborations.
